Situated at the intersection of academia, technology, and global engagement, FFL aims to transform the way English is taught and learned, catering to the diverse needs of learners and educators in an interconnected world.
The lab wants to help individual students improve their language skills with the use of technology. The lab wants to train GL teachers in how to maximize the affordances of technology inside the classroom, as well as outside of the classroom.
Dr. Gracia’s Virtual Reality inspired the creation of this lab for language-learning research she did in her doctoral program. Future lab work includes piloting of AI technologies for language learning with Global Launch students and faculty, cross-departmental and industry collaborations, and much more.
The lab seeks to pilot new technologies and determine how they can be used for English language learning, contribute to the field of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) by conducting academic research, and bring new technologies into the curriculum of GL’s various English language programs.
The Fluent Futures Lab embodies ASU’s charter by measuring success not by whom we exclude, but by whom we include and how they succeed.
By developing inclusive, accessible, scalable language learning tools, the Lab contributes to ASU’s commitment to innovation and community impact, locally and globally. It ensures that students of all backgrounds, especially international and multilingual learners, are empowered to thrive.
